13 miles long/8 miles short loop

The thirteen mile (or a shorter eight mile) loop starts from Worth Matravers and heads straight to the Jurassic Coast section of the South West Coast Path. We head West to explore Winspit Quarry and then on to St Aldhelm’s Head. Here, we meet the volunteers at the National Coastguard Institution who will be more than happy to give you the tour of the lookout. If you’re lucky, they’ll have some tea and cakes for a donation. Onwards to walk around Chapman’s Pool or head down to collect some fossils. We follow the current Houns Tout diversion and upwards to Swyre Head for the only 360 degree view of the Purbecks with views as far as Portland. Next, we go along the Ridgeway to Kingston with a quick stop at the Kingston Arms with stunning views to Corfe Castle. We finish by walking through the woods and fields and return to Worth Matravers.

This route heads from Worth Matravers to take your first steps on the Jurassic Coast section of the South West Coast Path heading East. If it’s a nice day, or if you’re brave, take a dip in the man made pool at Dancing Ledge. Head up the hill to Spyway to warm up and along The Priest’s Way to see the dinosaur footprints. Return to Worth Matravers to the Square and Compass pub or local cafe.
