Lyme Regis to Poole/Poole to Lyme Regis

75 magical miles of history, geological marvel, views and surprises. Absolutely not to be missed.

Starting at the West Dorset town of Lyme Regis, you head East towards Charmouth and the highest point on the South Coast, Golden Gap. A magical location to stop and view the world from above the clouds. The flat top cliff rises 627 feet (191 metres) above see level with views East all the way to Portland Bill on a clear day. You continue above Seatown, past Eype and to the seaside town of West Bay. The next section is part beach, part cliff and part inland as you move past Abbotsbury  towards the impressive Chesil Beach and Weymouth.

If you choose the Portland loop, you’ll be rewarded with views over the Causeway, Chesil Beach and much of the Jurassic Coast. Portland is natural, wild and ruggedly beautiful. Famous for Portland Stone used in the construction of St Paul’s Cathedral and the United Nations Building in New York. Back to sea level and Weymouth you go as you begin the stretch of towards Durdle Door. By far the most dramatic section of the Jurassic Coast. We don’t want to give away too much. You have to see it to believe it.

For the remaining section, there is the geologic wonder of Lulworth Cove, the Lulworth military firing ranges (on a closed day of course!), the abandoned WWII village of Tyneham and many other wonderous locations before Swanage, Old Harry Rocks and the end of the South West Coast Path and the Jurassic Coast in Studland.
